NGO Atina organised online mentoring session on combating trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation with five Local Anti-Trafficking Teams from Nis, Vranje, Subotica, Sremska Mitrovica and Sabac, with the participation of Ms Sena Uzunovic, Prosecutor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. An online mentoring session took place on 20 October 2020.
Ms Uzunovic presented anti-trafficking legal framework and international standards, indicators of labour exploitation, the “SerbAz” case, and the difference between violation of labour laws and trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation. She shared her own experience as prosecutor.
The 45 representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Social and Veterans Affairs - Centres for Social Work , The National Employment Service, the Labour Inspectorate, the representatives of the Market Inspection, health institutions, the education system and local civil society organisations attended the event and used the opportunity to discuss their roles and responsibilities in applying anti-trafficking standards.
Participants commented that raising awareness and sharing information on trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation is necessary because people are being recruited without sufficient information about the employer, the contract, the possible risks of exploitation, and what to do in case of exploitation.
This event was organised in the framework of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019 - 2022” and its action “Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings in Serbia”, implemented by the Council of Europe.
