3rd meeting of the Bureau of the Bern Convention

The Bureau of the Standing Committee of the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats is set to hold its third ordinary meeting of the year from 10 to 12 September 2024 in Strasbourg.

Key agenda items include the progress of the Working Group on overseeing implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Bern Convention for the period to 2030 and overall the assessment of progress on the implementation of the Convention’s Programme of Activities for 2024. Significant initiatives include the Emerald Network and the European Diploma for Protected Areas.

The Bureau will also consider key developments from various groups of experts, with a focus on the conservation of birds and large carnivores. Additionally, the preliminary draft Programme of Activities for 2025-2026 will be discussed.

Another significant focus will be the monitoring of the implementation of the legal aspects of the Convention, including biennial reporting and the Online reporting system. Eventually, the Bureau will review several case files related to alleged violations of the Convention, including new complaints submitted to the Secretariat.
