Back New wolf culling policy

New wolf culling policy

The complainant esteems that Switzerland violates the Bern Convention with its current and future wolf management and undermines the international efforts of the IUCN in the European Alpine region.

Allegedly, a massive relaxation of wolf protection was to come into force in Switzerland based on political arguments, preceded by no proper consultation and “against the will of the people”. Beyond 12 packs threshold (2 - 3 packs per region, in 5 regions), wolf packs may be shot to avoid damage to livestock, a risk to humans or an excessive reduction in the regional population of wild cloven-hoofed animals; out of 32 packs present, 20 packs may be shot as "surplus".
