The Peak District National Park is the first designated national park in the United Kingdom. It is situated at the centre of England, between Sheffield and Manchester, one of the most accessible of our protected landscapes. Almost one third of the National Park comprises areas of international importance designated as Natura 2000 sites. The National Park contains a variety of landscapes ranging from upland bogs and heathland through historic walled farmed landscapes and wooded valleys. Historic parklands, bronze-age settlements and lead mines form some of the significant cultural heritage features in the landscape.
