Back Possible negative impact of a harbour’s construction on the confluence of the Sava into the Danube

The complaint was submitted by the association “EPAR – OIPA Serbia / Alliance for Nature Protection, the rights of animals and people” in 2017 on the construction of a harbour in the area of the confluence of the Sava river into the Danube river.

According to the complainant, this area is an important habitat for the resting, feeding, and nesting of birds in particular the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), which is protected under Annex II of the Bern Convention and would be destroyed through the construction of the harbour. According to the government in 2021 the location of the harbour was changed moving the harbour 12 km upstream from the originally planned location, which could remove pressure from the above-mentioned location, thus the complaint was dismissed.
