This complaint was submitted in 2020 by several NGOs concerning the construction of hydropower plants on the Neretva river, which could negatively affect the continuity of the river and impact protected species and habitats.
The complainants state that the EIA does not show the real ecological risks and adverse impacts from the proposed projects and fails to assess the overall cumulative impact of the project. During its 41st meeting in 2021, the Standing Committee decided to mandate an on-the-spot appraisal for 2022.
The OSA carried out in 2022 resulted in Recommendation no. 217 (2022) on the possible negative impact of hydro-power plant development on the Neretva river, and the case being opened during the 42nd Standing Committee.
