The complaint was submitted in 2022 by a Bosnian citizen on mining activities in Trstionica – Gornja Bukovica and Vareš. According to the complaint, the concession for exploration and exploitation of minerals in biodiverse area of Trstionica – Gornja Bukovica and Vareš was granted despite very limited information about its environmental impact and inadequate public participation in the process.

The area concerned is a rainforest rich in biodiversity, habitats for numerous unique algae, surrounding flora, fish and crabs, which also represent an important bird’s migratory route. The mining activities would critically endanger the ecosystem due to deforestation, water, air and soil pollution.
