Presumed threat to Emerald site Zatoky (UA0000214) from windfarm developments

The complaint was submitted in 2019 by the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group on the building of a wind farm very close to the Emerald network area of  “Zatoky” (UA0000214), which is situated on the Karkinitska and Dzharylgatska bays in the Kherson region of Ukraine.

According to the complainant, the wind farm would be situated at the intersection of two transboundary migration routes of many bird species and near important wintering places. The region also covers 30% of the nesting places of the Ukrainian population of the collared pratincole (Glareola pratincole), which is protected under Annex II of the Bern Convention. The complainant states that alternative areas should be considered.
