Mountain heathland in north-west Scotland in the area around Loch Maree, rising to 977 m; it includes remnants of the post-glacial pinewoods of the ancient Caledonian forest.

Fair isle is an isolated and almost completely treeless island lying between Orkney and Shetland, whose climate is influenced by the Gulf Stream. In the summer there are 21 days of fog per month, on average. The landscape is of two types: moorland and cliff to the north and gentle terrain and mugged coastline to the south where the land is comparatively fertile with grasslands and some arable cultivations. Most of the 70 habitants are farmers (crofters) living on 19 crofts, tenure of which is generally hereditary; activities include a knitting co-operative, some fishing and tradition crafts namely: fiddle making, boat building.

Situated on the Suffolk coast, in Eastern England, Minsmere consists of fenland areas which in 1940 were flooded as an anti-invasion measure. In 1962 work commenced on the construction of a 17 hectare shallow lagoon system. Minsmere is the most important bird reserve in the United Kingdom.

The Peak District National Park is the first designated national park in the United Kingdom. It is situated at the centre of England, between Sheffield and Manchester, one of the most accessible of our protected landscapes. Almost one third of the National Park comprises areas of international importance designated as Natura 2000 sites. The National Park contains a variety of landscapes ranging from upland bogs and heathland through historic walled farmed landscapes and wooded valleys. Historic parklands, bronze-age settlements and lead mines form some of the significant cultural heritage features in the landscape.

Purbeck is a 40-kilometre stretch of coast on the English Channel between Weymouth and Bournemouth. The landscape is extremely diversified, with spectacular cliffs, dunes, islands and mesothermophilous meadows. It is subject to a wide variety of statutory controls operated by different bodies.
