Developing a Vision and Strategic Plan for the Bern Convention for the 2021-2030 decade – a first for the Convention - was mandated by the 40th Standing Committee in 2020.
The work took place over the following years through a dedicated Working Group. While the Vision was adopted at the 41st Standing Committee in 2021, the Strategic Plan was adopted at the 43rd meeting in 2023, in order to align it with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
The 43rd Committee also mandated the establishment of a new Working Group to oversee implementation of the Strategic Plan to 2030, including further advancement of certain indicators, improving synergies both between the Plan and other activities carried out within the framework of the Bern Convention and between fellow organisations, and mid/end reviews.
