State Immunity under International Law and Current Challenges

A seminar on “State Immunity under International Law and Current Challenges”, organised in the framework of the Czech Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the occasion of the 54th CAHDI meeting was held on Wednesday 20 September 2017 in Strasbourg (France).
This Seminar was opened by Mr Martin Smolek, Deputy Minister for the Legal and Consular Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The Seminar brought together experts in the field who presented the international legal framework on State Immunity as well as case studies from legal practice from selected jurisdictions. The Seminar highlighted the current challenges faced both at an international level as well as domestically when confronted to questions of State Immunity. The Seminar aimed at encouraging the exchange of practices in the field and discussed the possible approaches to be adopted to address the current challenges faced by the international community in the area of immunities of States.
