On 6-7 June 2019 the Conference “Democracy in action - Learning & Teaching Resources in Democratic School Practice” was held in Athens in the framework of the Council of Europe project “Free to speak, Safe to Learn - Democratic Schools for All”.
The event was organised in cooperation between the Council of Europe, the Zurich University of Teacher Education and the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs of Greece, which hosted the event.
It was made possible by a generous financial contribution by the Government of Switzerland (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation-SERI).
The event brought together the Education Policy Advisors Network of the Council of Europe (EPAN), experts, Council of Europe authors of publications, teacher trainers, practitioners, policy makers, and school representatives
The conference took stock of and contributed to the further visibility of educational resources developed in the framework of Council of Europe’s education programmes and stimulated synergies to promote Democracy and Human Rights in the field of education.
Different types of resources as well as inclusive approaches in educational practice were presented and highlighted in connection with the Council of Europe Democratic Schools Network as well as with the implementation of the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture.
On that occasion, the new website Living Democracy developed by the Zurich University of Teacher Education in cooperation with the Council of Europe was launched.
