Working Group examines the draft CCJE Opinion on the disciplinary liability of judges

The CCJE Working Group met in Dublin on 3-5 July 2024 to discuss the draft CCJE Opinion No. 27 (2024) on the disciplinary liability of judges.

The members of the Working Group discussed and finalised this draft prepared on the basis of the structure approved during the previous meeting in April 2024. Key points as regards the purpose and scope of the Opinion, delimiting the proper application of the disciplinary liability of judges, the legislative framework and organisation of disciplinary proceedings, grounds for disciplinary liability, procedural safeguards, disciplinary sanctions and other aspects were examined and discussed in depth.

Based on the amended draft Opinion, a set of recommendations will further be elaborated highlighting the basic concepts and main principles concerning the whole framework for the disciplinary liability of judges.

The members of the Working Group warmly thanked the Judicial Council of Ireland for inviting and organising the meeting in Dublin, as well as the President of the CCJE, Judge Leonie Reynolds, CCJE member in respect of Ireland, for her contribution to the work of the CCJE and her warm welcome.
