The lack of human rights-based migration policies and standards is leading to routine violations of migrants’ rights whether in transit, at international borders or within the territory of the countries they migrate to.
In accordance with its terms of reference, the CDCJ established a working group on migration (CDCJ-MIG), with the aim to assist the CDCJ in its mandate related to the elaboration of a a Guide for practitioners on administrative detention of migrants to support the implementation of existing standards in this field. Such work takes into account the work previously carried out by its former subordinate body, the Committee of experts on administrative detention of migrants (CJ-DAM).
On 19-20 May 2022, the CDCJ Working group on migration held its 1st meeting and exchanged views on the scope of the future Guide for Practitioners on administrative detention of migrants, taking into account the work conducted previously by the CDCJ in this area, and developed the elements of the draft detailed outline of the Guide.
The Working group also discussed its work programme, timetable and working methods for 2022.
