Costa Rica signed the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs (CETS No. 216).
It brings the number of States signatories to 23 from which 5 have already ratified the Treaty.
The Convention is the first international legally binding instrument aimed at preventing and combating trafficking in human organs.
