As the Hungarian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers draws to a close, representatives of Hungarian local authorities gathered in Budapest and online on 10 November 2021 to share examples of Best Practice in good democratic governance at the local level in Hungary. This year local authorities presented novel and replicable approaches on topics such as care for the elderly, governance innovation, public safety and social inclusion.
The event also served as the first award ceremony of the European Label of Governance Excellence (ELoGE) in Hungary. The municipalities of Alsómocsolád Village, Budapest Capital District XIII, Hollád Village, Méhkerék Municipality, Szamossályi Village, and Újszász Town have been recognised for their respect for the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance with the award of the crystal dodecahedron.
The Centre of Expertise for Good Governance has been supporting TÖOSZ, the Hungarian National Association of Local Authorities, in organising the annual Best Practice Programme in Hungary since 2008. The Best Practice Programme of the Centre of Expertise helps celebrate good practice and promotes peer learning by disseminating innovative approaches by local authorities.
Building on the cumulative examples of good practice in local governance over the years, TÖOSZ, received accreditation from the ELoGE accreditation platform to award the European Label of Governance Excellence in Hungary in 2021 in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, the Hungarian Village Association, the Association of Small Towns, and the Homo Oecologicus Foundation.
