On Wednesday 14 March the Centre of Expertise and the Institute of Local Administration awarded the European Label to 15 Greek municipalities at the presence of local authorities and representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
The ELoGE programme was implemented in Greece from May 2017 to March 2018 and it actively engaged citizens, administrative staff and local authorities from 23 municipalities. Those who demonstrated a high level of good governance were awarded with a crystal dodecahedron, symbol of the 12 European Principles.
Mayors stressed that this unprecedented benchmarking process helped them reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of their performance, taking into consideration the standpoint of citizens and local staff.
The participants' enthusiasm and eagerness to improve proved their commitment to good quality governance and was widely praised.
The Centre of Expertise will keep standing by Greek local authorities and encourages the Institute of Local Administration to launch a second round of ELoGE in 2018.
