Inter-Municipal Cooperation on Internal Audit in Greece

In the framework of the CoE-EU Joint Project “Delivering Good Governance in Greece”, the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance helped develop a model Internal Audit Charter, as well as the main principles to enhance the independence of the Internal Audit within an Inter-Municipal Cooperation (IMC) framework.

On 1 October, the Centre of Expertise organised a roundtable on Governance, Risk Management and Compliance issues related to Internal Audit, followed by a workshop to discuss and define a Code of Conduct for Internal Auditors operating under an IMC agreement.

The discussions allowed the experts to collect very useful comments and feedback from the representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the National Transparency Authority, the Hellenic Institute of Internal Auditors, and the pilot municipalities which will establish an IMC to support internal audit.

The above models will be included into the Greek Handbook on IMC, which will be finalised, presented, and made available to all Greek municipalities by the end of the project.
