Promoting Good Governance and developing cross-border cooperation at local level in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Senior officials from the Committees for European Integration of the Associations of Local Authorities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska have gathered in Medjugorje for a capacity-building workshop based on the Centre of Expertise toolkits on cross-border cooperation.

Participants will be introduced to the Council of Europe framework for cross-border cooperation and will develop an understanding of the role of the official as an animator and driver of cross-border cooperation. Examples of good practice from Council of Europe member states will be used to stimulate reflections on obstacles to and opportunities for cross-border cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The Council of Europe Action Plan 2018-2021 for Bosnia and Herzegovina acknowledges that strengthening governance at all levels through public administration and local government reform is key to the country’s EU integration agenda. This workshop, organised in the context of ongoing Centre of Expertise support to BiH, will help identify needs to be addressed in a possible future Action Plan project in the country.
