CEPEJ President visited Kazakhstan

The President of the CEPEJ, Francesco Depasquale (Malta), visited Kazakhstan on 3 and 4 October 2024.

On the occasion of the 9th Congress of Judges and a Round Table on the strategy for development of court administration in Kazakhstan, during which he had been invited to intervene, the President of the CEPEJ met the President of Kazakhstan, the President of the Supreme Court and the Head of Court Administration. Accompanied by a member of the Secretariat, he also visited the Astana Criminal Court of First Instance and the Court Administration’s Centre responsible for monitoring the situation in the courts.

During the various meetings, the President of the CEPEJ insisted on the fact that digital transformation and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in judicial procedures can contribute to the efficiency of justice, provided that human participation and involvement and a certain level of quality of justice are maintained. He recalled that the CEPEJ encourages a responsible and measured approach to digitisation.

Continued collaboration with Kazakhstan was also confirmed, with their participation in the next cycle of evaluation of judicial systems, as well as exchanges of experience within CEPEJ networks and meetings.
