On September 25, 2024, an annual conference was held in Malta as part of the joint EU-Council of Europe project « Attorney General and State Advocate in Malta - Implementation of action plan of offices re-organisation » to assess the progress and key results achieved during the first year of the project, which demonstrate a strong commitment from the Maltese authorities to strengthen the services of the Attorney General and the State Advocate.

Two reports developed by CEPEJ experts were presented, including a Draft mapping and assessment of the internal processes and case flows of the State Advocate office, as well as an Assessment with recommendations on the efficiency of the Attorney general. Dr. Jonathan Attard, Minister of Justice, and Clare Ovey, Director of the Human Rights Directorate at the Council of Europe, took part in the event, which also aimed to discuss future activities until 2025.

On the occasion of this conference, CEPEJ organised two meetings on September 24 and 26, 2024

A meeting bringing together Dr. Victoria Buttigieg, Attorney General of Malta, and CEPEJ experts was organised on 24 September to discuss the CEPEJ Guide on communication with the media and the public for courts and prosecuting authorities, and to identify best practices in this area.

A working group on improving the internal procedures of the Attorney General's office also met for the first time on September 26, in the presence of CEPEJ experts. Topics related to data collection, statistics, procedural timelines, and workload were discussed. The working group also prepared a clear action plan and set a work schedule.

The Project is co-funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
