CEPEJ supports High Inspector of Justice in Albania on the methodology for thematic inspections

On 27-31 May 2024, a training activity focused on the methodology for preparing and conducting thematic inspection missions, was organized in Tirana with joint contribution of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) and EU4Justice Project. This activity follows previous training seminars on European standards on judicial inspection for Inspectors and Assistant Inspectors of the High Inspector of Justice (HIJ) in preparing, conducting and analysing thematic inspection, based on EU best practices and international standards.

During the first two days of the training, 35 inspectors and assistant inspectors were trained on the methodology for organizing thematic inspections related to internal work of courts and prosecution offices with a focus on the French and Romanian experiences.

Following these two days training, two teams of inspectors accompanied by the international experts conducted a two-days inspection mission in the Prosecution Office of Durres, in line with the annual programme of HIJ. The closing session of this week of training gathered all participating inspectors, discussing main results, findings and recommendations, based on which a good practices Guide will be prepared.

The activity was organized by the action Strengthening the Quality and Efficiency of Justice in Albania (SEJ IV) in the framework of the European Union/Council of Europe joint programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye (Horizontal Facility III), co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
