CEPEJ visit to Cyprus to improve judicial data collection

At the invitation of the Cypriot authorities, the CEPEJ organised a visit to Nicosia on 2 and 3 April 2025. This mission was an opportunity to meet all key stakeholders involved in the collection of judicial statistics in Cyprus.  Discussions focused on possibilities to improve the availability and enhance the quality of certain, mainly budgetary data, case flows in courts and prosecutors' offices and legal aid. The use of data at national level was also discussed.

Visits were also conducted at the registries of the Nicosia District Court and the Court of Appeal - set up in 2023, introducing a new level of jurisdiction. These visits aimed to observe case management practices within both courts.

Finally, the reform of the CEPEJ's evaluation exercise, which will be gradually implemented starting this year, was presented to all participants, with particular emphasis on the challenges related to timeline.
