Back Mission of CEPEJ experts to support increased efficiency and quality of the Slovak judicial system

A team of CEPEJ experts representing Austria, France, Italy, The Netherlands, and Croatia conducted on 5-8 June 2017 a fact-finding mission to the Slovak Republic. The mission took place under the co-operation project “Strengthening the efficiency and quality of the Slovak judicial system”, which is financed by the European Social Fund. It is contemporary with active policy reforms such as introducing changes in the procedure of selection of judicial candidates, optimisation of the court mapping and further specialisation of courts, simplification of some proceedings, introducing electronic payment orders, enhancing the ICT tools and statistical data analysis in view of better court management and more efficient courts etc., which are part of the strategy of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic to improve the organisation and functioning of the national court system. As part of the mission, CEPEJ experts had enriching exchanges with representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court, Bar Association, Judges’ Association and CSOs active in the field of judicial reforms, and visited 6 regional and district courts in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica, Galanta and Senica. Based on the methodology and tools adopted by the CEPEJ, the expert team will draw up a report including their main findings as well as detailed recommendations on the way to further improve the efficiency of Slovak courts and the quality of their services.
