Every year, courts of first and second instance in the Netherlands organise one or more activities for the public in a particular week, called the Week of the Judiciary. A recap of last year's Week of the Judiciary.

The Week of the Judiciary 2022 took place from Monday 14 to Friday 18 November, themed 'In conversation with the judge'. This special week was aimed at young people between 11 and 16 years old who got the chance to talk to a judge or other staff within the judiciary.

Several courts opened their doors to the public where court hearings were reenacted, people could talk to judges and young children could get their faces painted or do a scavenger hunt. In addition, several judges and legal officers gave guest lectures at primary and secondary schools.

Students could take a look behind the scenes at the Central Appeals Tribunal, the highest administrative court in social security law and the social domain and enter the Hague Court of Appeal's essay competition.

The week was covered by our Rechtspraak Reporters (Judiciary Reporters), a diverse group of young people who use blogs and vlogs to report on all sorts of things related to the Judiciary.

This year, the Week of the Judiciary will take place from 13-17 November 2023.
