On 14 October 2022, a Roundtable to present the National Action Plan for Children and Adolescents in Andorra took place in Strasbourg. The National Action Plan is the culmination of over two years of fruitful co-operation between the Council of Europe’s Children’s Rights Division and the Andorran government. It will contribute to strengthening the rights of the child in Andorra, particularly in the areas of child participation, and prevention and protection from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, in line with the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Convention), which Andorra ratified in 2014.

Ms Regina Jensdottir, Head of the Children’s Rights Division, celebrated the excellent co-operation with the Andorran authorities and expressed the Council of Europe’s readiness to support them in the implementation of the National Action Plan. Ms Vilarrubla Escales, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Ms Pallarés Cortés, Minister of Social Affairs, Youth and Equality, emphasised their commitment to upholding children rights in the country.

The Roundtable offered a platform both to the Andorran authorities and the Council of Europe experts who supported the development of the National Action Plan to present its objectives and next steps for its implementation. It also highlighted the participation of children in the drafting process: over 4000 children from 8 to 16 years old were consulted during its development. A lively discussion followed the presentation with ideas to use the same methodology to develop similar plans in other countries.
