Protection of children against sexual abuse in the circle of trust

A new monitoring round of the implementation of the Lanzarote Convention was launched on 20 June 2023 with the publication of the first monitoring questionnaire. The Lanzarote Committee has agreed that the new round will focus again on protection of children against sexual abuse in the circle of trust, i.e. by someone children trust or who exercises authority or influence over them. The new monitoring round will take stock of the situation in the 22 Parties that had not been examined in the first round and evaluate the follow-up given to the Committee’s recommendations by the 26 Parties that had. The Lanzarote Committee has decided that the first questionnaire will focus on Parties’ legal frameworks. Parties are expected to submit their replies by 20 September 2023. Civil society representatives have also been invited to provide information and will be asked for comments on Parties’ replies.
