Combatting sexism in elections awareness raising video released

A ‘Combatting sexism in elections’ animated video has been released as part of a joint Council of Europe, Central Election Commission and Audiovisual Council partnership initiative ahead of the general electoral campaign for the 5th November local elections in the Republic of Moldova.

The video, which includes subtitles and sign language accessibility, aims to raise awareness for electoral candidates, political parties, media and voters concerning “zero” tolerance towards sexism, as well as the negative repercussions of sexist speech.

The video was launched at a roundtable on combating hate speech, sexism, and other forms of gender-based violence in elections on 29 September.

Cases of sexist speech can be reported on-line at gender.monitor.md, by phone 0 8003 33 88 (free call), to the police igp@igp.gov.md, to the Council for equality and/or the Ombudsman Office in the Republic of Moldova.

The electoral campaign starts on 6 October 2023. Don't tolerate sexism.  Report it!

This activity was undertaken within the Council of Europe Project “Improving Electoral Practice in the Republic of Moldova, Phase III.
