Local authorities across Moldova are invited to engage in the open government movement

An info session for more than 100 representatives of local authorities from the Republic of Moldova interested to join the Open Government Parnership (OGP) Local Programme was held on 8 December 2023. The OGP Secretariat highlighted the unique opportunities offerred by the programme and how partnerships and local alliances with different actors can lead to more effective and people-powered solutions to complex challenges.

Several municipalities have announced their interest in joining this global and ambitious initiative, which provides an opportunity for all levels of governance, citizens and civil society to join efforts to complement Moldova’s state-level OGP Action Plan 2023-2025.

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will assist up to six municipalities from the Republic to Moldova in the preparation of applications for the OGP Local Programme. Further support will also be provided to the selected municipalities in the elaboration and implementation of open government committments at the local level and to become models of effective open government practices.

This event was organised within the project "Strengthening the Culture of Dialogue and Open and Ethical Local Governance in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities within the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024. The project aims to strengthen political dialogue between local and central authorities, improve the quality of local governance through integrity, corruption prevention, open governance, public ethics, and gender equality at the local level, as well as support authorities in managing migration.
