Police officers in the Republic of Moldova trained on addressing hate speech and bias-motivated offences

More than 60 police officers increased their knowledge and capacities to address bias-motivated crimes and hate speech, thanks to a training organised as a result of the cooperation between the Council of Europe, the General Police Inspectorate and the Promo-Lex Association.

The training covered the new provisions of Law 111/2022 on crimes and offences motivated by prejudice, hate speech, and incitement to discrimination, as well as the practical examples highlighting the important role of the police in preventing and combating hatred in the society.

This event was also an opportunity for police officers to exchange experiences with their peers and discuss evidence collection, complaint processing, work with victims - considering their specific vulnerabilities.

The cooperation between the Council of Europe and the General Police inspectorate has been continuing throughout 2023. To date, the capacities of more than 200 police officers from different regions of the country have been strengthened - to promote equality and non-discrimination and ensure an effective enforcement of related legal provisions.

The event is organised in cooperation with the General Inspectorate of Police, Promo-Lex Association and the Council of Europe Project "Enhancing Diversity and Equality in the Republic of Moldova", implemented in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024 and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
