The Council of Europe publishes an in-depth commentary of the Law on Access to Information in Moldova

The Council of Europe has launched a new practical guide, an in-depth commentary of the new Law on Access to Information of Public Interest, fully aligned with the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents.

The guide empowers citizens to better engage with public institutions and helps authorities manage information requests transparently and efficiently. This remains of particular importance, in light of the new law introducing numerous changes to the ways in which the public will be able to access information managed by public institutions, in alignment with European standards, particularly in aspects such as proactive transparency requirements, deadline and communication regulations, judicial review models and financial sanctions.

This initiative marks a significant step towards greater openness and accountability in public administration, fostering trust and civic participation.

The Publication represents a joint effort by the Council of Europe Project “Support for Media Pluralism and Freedom of Expression in the Republic of Moldova” with the EU-funded Project “Support for structured policy dialogue, coordination of the implementation of the Association Agreement and enhancement of the legal approximation process.”
