Council of Europe Week in the Republic of Moldova 2023: Impact on human rights and everyday lives

From 10 to 16 July 2023, the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, will organise the Council of Europe Week 2023 in the Republic of Moldova. A variety of events will take place: a public art exhibition focused on migration and the need for safety, a flash mob in collaboration with the General Police Inspectorate, and the screening of documentaries in rural areas featuring social issues, as well as a living library showcasing the stories of victims of hate speech and hate crimes.

The Council of Europe Week 2023 in the Republic of Moldova will mark the 28th anniversary of the country's accession to the Council of Europe. All these events aim to inspire people, by promoting the Council of Europe core values, reaching out to the public in the regions and giving visibility to our fundamental rights and freedoms and to the positive impact that the Council of Europe is making on people’s lives.

10 July 2023 - Public exhibition of the works of the national art competition “My house is also your house: together in safety”. The event  is organised by the project Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova and will take place in the Council of Europe Square (90 Alexei Mateevici, St.)  from 10.00 to 12.00.

14 July 2023 - The joint European Union and Council of Europe project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova” is organising, in cooperation with the General Police Inspectorate, the flash mob- “Block the hate” aimed at raising awareness and encouraging the public to take a stance against hatred and discrimination. The event will start at 10.00 in La Izvor park, Chisinau.

From 14 to 16 July, the Human Rights Documentary Films Caravan will travel around the country to organize open-air screenings of documentary films developed with the Support for Media Pluralism and Freedom of Expression in the Republic of Moldova Project’ support. Five documentaries on social issues and human rights will be screened in different locations, covering the North, South and Centre of the country:

14 July 2023- Screening of the - "The sky without stars" and "Flight" documentaries in the life-sentenced prisoners wing in Rezina.

15 July 2023- The recently released documentaries "On my own" and "The price of history" will be screened in Slobozia, the village of the protagonist of the movie "The price of history".

16 July 2023 – The well know documentary "Liliana’s Voice" will be presented to the public in Stefan Voda district, at the Cultural Centre (31 August 1989, no. 2 street).

Since the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe on July 13, 1995, the Organization has supported the country in fulfilling its statutory obligations and specific commitments to strengthen democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
