Representatives of election administration from Moldova visiting Council of Europe  institutions in Strasbourg

A delegation composed of 17 representatives of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, the Centre for Continuous Electoral Training (Training Centre) and the Central Electoral Council of the ATU Gagauzia (CECG) participated in a 2-day study visit to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (CoE).

 The Moldovan Delegation had the opportunity to meet with representatives from various CoE institutions and departments such as, inter alia, the Parliamentary Assembly, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Venice Commission, the Group of States against Corruption, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Throughout the visit participants had the opportunity to learn and exchange experiences on the CoE good standards on ensuring transparency in political financing, election campaigns and referendums, practice of inter-institutional cooperation in the fight against corruption in elections in CoE member states, ECtHR case law on electoral dispute resolution. The delegation also addressed topics such as the role of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the monitoring procedures and observation of elections, recommendations on communication and media coverage of election campaigns, with a focus on the online dimension of campaigning and mechanisms on preventing and combatting gender stereotypes and sexism in elections.

The study visit was organised by the Division of Elections and Participatory Democracy, through the Council of Europe Project „Improving electoral practice in the Republic of Moldova, phase II”.
