On 15 June 2021 the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova” organised an online round table on the presentation of the draft Roadmap for the implementation of the recommendations from the Research report on the application of pre-trial detention in the Republic of Moldova.
The round table follows the research report on the application of pre-trial detention in the Republic of Moldova, which includes relevant observations and findings, specific recommendations to the Moldovan authorities aimed at ensuring the domestic policies, legal framework and practice comply with international standards, which was presented in February 2020.
The round table provided a platform for the criminal justice actors to discuss possible reforms in the field of right to liberty and security.
The draft Roadmap is only the first step in identifying the framework for improving the application of pre-trial detention in the Republic of Moldova and eliminating identified shortcomings in this area. The event will be followed by another expert meeting to be organised on 2 July 2021 to finalise the Roadmap.
The round table concluded with the establishment of the next steps for the implementation of the recommendations from the research report jointly with the participants of the event.
The online round table took place within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024.
