At the start of the meeting, the Chairman expressed the Committee’s condolences and solidarity after the terrorist attacks in member and observer States over the last few days, namely in Marseille/France and in Edmonton/Canada, as well as the massacre in Las Vegas/USA. The Committee then observed a minute’s silence in memory of the victims.
Pursuant to the Council of Europe Internet governance strategy 2016-2019, the Ministers' Deputies authorised the Secretary General to exchange letters with Internet companies and/or their representative associations, in order to facilitate co-operation between these companies/associations and the Council of Europe with a view to promoting respect for human rights and the rule of law online.
Finally, the Deputies held exchanges of views with:
- Mr Georg Stawa, President of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ), following his presentation of the activity report of CEPEJ for 2016;
- Mr Wojciech Sawicki, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly, on the preparation of the 4th part of the 2017 PACE Session (Strasbourg, 9-13 October 2017) and other Assembly activities.
