At their 1491st meeting, on 6 March 2024, the Ministers’ Deputies held an exchange of views with Mr Ian Borg, Chair-in-Office of the OSCE, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, on the priorities of Malta’s Chairpersonship of the OSCE and cooperation between the two organisations [more information ...].
They also held their last exchange of views with Ms Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, whose mandate ends on 31 March 2024. The Deputies thanked Ms Mijatović for her dedicated work both for the Council of Europe and for the general cause of human rights throughout her mandate.
In addition, the Deputies adopted the following texts:
- the Gender Equality Strategy 2024-2029, prepared by the Gender Equality Commission (GEC) [more information …];
- a Toolkit for human rights impact assessment of the measures taken by the State in situations of crisis, prepared by the Steering Committee for Human Rights (CDDH);
and took note of:
- a report by the GEC on the implementation of Recommendation CM/Rec(2019)1 on preventing and combating sexism;
- a report on the 93rd meeting of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI). The Deputies encouraged member States to take any necessary action in the light of ECRI’s statement on the rise of antisemitism in Europe as a result of the current conflict in the Middle East;
- three documents prepared by the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI): a Guidance Note on countering the spread of online mis- and disinformation through fact-checking and platform design solutions; Good practices for sustainable news media financing; and Guidelines on the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence systems in journalism.
