Youth discuss Digital Literacy and Hate Speech in the Age of AI

The study session ‘Developing Digital Literacy and Responding to Hate Speech in the Age of AI’ was co-organised within the Youth for Democracy programme in cooperation with the No Hate Speech Network (NHSN) and held at the European Youth Centre Budapest from 12 to 16 June 2023.

It brought together 30 determined youth workers and activists from diverse backgrounds. They delved into the world of artificial intelligence (AI), algorithmic decision-making, and the far-reaching impacts of these technologies on aspects of equality and non-discrimination. They analysed and reflected on the challenges and opportunities these technologies present, especially in the context of youth activism and the escalating concern of hate speech in digital spaces.

Following the study session, participants are better equipped to raise awareness about AI and its ramifications and contribute to the development and modification of AI policies. The programme empowered participants to initiate conversations and promote digital literacy at a broader scale, fostering a more informed and responsible digital society free of hate.
