Follow up: What can be done to stop Antisemitism, intolerance and hatred based on religion?

Further to the exchange of views on Antisemitism and other forms of intolerance and hatred based on religion which took place on 6 December during the 8th plenary meeting of the Steering Committee on Anti-discrimination, Diversity and Inclusion (CDADI), at its 9th plenary meeting, CDADI adopted the document “Summary and Outcomes of the exchange of views of 6 December 2023 on Antisemitism and other forms of intolerance and hatred based on Religion” and transmitted it to the Committee of Ministers to take note of it.

This document provides an insight into the measures being taken in member States to combat intolerance and hatred based on religion generally, as well as specific measures taken to tackle recent spikes in antisemitic or antimuslim discourse, intolerance and crimes.

The exchange and follow up is the latest in a series of efforts by CDADI to prevent and combat antisemitism and other forms of intolerance and hatred based on religion, including through the adoption of Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)16 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on combating hate speech and the preparation of a draft Committee of Ministers Recommendation on combating hate crime. Moreover, a Study on preventing and combating hate speech in times of crisis provides member States and other actors with valuable guidance on how to prevent and respond to the rise in hate speech provoked by crises such as terrorist attacks. CDADI encourages its members, participants and observers to continue to be inspired by the practices shared during and after the exchange of views on 6 December 2023 and to make use of the relevant standards, reports and tools developed by CDADI.
