The aim of the mission is to assess the difficulties faced by local authorities in the light of the current political situation, particularly in the context of future local elections in Georgia.
Congress President Marc Cools, President of the Chamber of Regions Cecilia Dalman Eek and President of the Chamber of Local Authorities Bernd Vöhringer, accompanied by Secretary General Mathieu Mori, will meet Georgian local authorities of all main political parties.
This visit should not be considered as political support for the legitimacy or the views of the interlocutors they meet.
The Congress President has recently asked for an opinion of the Venice Commission on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Code which could weaken, within municipal councils, the proportional system and favour the majority.
