Nazia Rehman from the United Kingdom elected Chair of the Congress’ Social Inclusion Committee

The three statutory committees of the Congress met on 25 March in Strasbourg ahead of its 48th session.

The Social Inclusion Committee elected Nazia Rehman (United Kingdom, SOC/G/PD) as its Chair, Joanne Louise Laban (United Kingdom, ECR) as its First Vice-Chair and Angela Dorn (Germany, SOC/G/PD) as its 5th Vice-Chair. The Committee held an exchange of views with an OECD expert, was updated on the recent study visit to the Netherlands undertaken by one of the rapporteurs in the framework of preparing a report on social housing innovations, and discussed the progress in the revision of the European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life.

The Monitoring Committee adopted a report on an Additional Protocol to the European Charter of Local Self-Government on the environment, prepared by Meropi-Spyridoula Ydraiou (Greece, EPP/CCE); discussed recent developments concerning local democracy in Georgia, Türkiye and Albania; and held an exchange of views on the current situation in Ukrainian municipalities and regions.

The Governance Committee discussed progress in preparing reports on regional history teaching and on coping with coastal erosion.
