On 6 February, two earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.5 hit south-eastern Türkiye and Syria, leaving more than 45,000 dead, over 3 million displaced and thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools destroyed.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, on the occasion of the Congress’ 44th Session, a fund-raising event will be organised in cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly, the Council of Europe Staff Assocation (Amicale), and the Turkish community at the Council of Europe, to help provide shelter, food and medical supplies to the thousands of people who are now homeless and destitute.

Turkish specialties will be offered from 8.30 to 14.30 in the lobby of the hemicycle in the Palais. The event will be officially launched by the President of the Congress and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly at 11.10.

Members are encouraged to visit the stand and show their solidarity with the earthquake victims.
