The Violence against Women Project provides targeted support to beneficiary countries in their efforts to sign, ratify and implement the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The project aims at improving and strengthening legal, regulatory and policy frameworks and assists countries in building and strengthening institutional and operational capacities.

For those beneficiary countries that have not yet signed or ratified the Istanbul Convention, the project supports them in identifying key challenges in the area of violence against women and supports them in the path towards ratification.

The project operates through a number of modules, which are customised to a country’s specific situation and needs and developed in close co-operation and consultation with the respective beneficiary state.
