The project Facilitating accession to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (ECRML) in Belarus aims at discussing the protection of national minorities and their languages on the basis of the standards of the ECRML, the Council of Europe’s convention dedicated to the promotion of minority languages as part of the country’s cultural heritage.

Through round-table conferences, the Council of Europe informs national authorities and national minorities about European best practice in the field of minority language promotion. At the same time, the authorities are provided with legal advice with a view to identifying promotional measures of the ECRML that are most suitable to the minority languages of Belarus. Furthermore, the awareness of the ECRML among authorities and national minorities is being increased through the publication of information material.
