Over 150 prison and police officers have increased their knowledge on human rights of detained and sentenced people through a series of cascade training sessions. Teams of national trainers established within the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior and trained under the auspices the Action shared the newly obtained skills and knowledge with their peers. The training assisted prison and police staff to refine their practical skills and will lead to change in their attitude, as well as will raise the level of standards towards the prevention of ill-treatment.

The training teams and the cascade training sessions form part of a comprehensive capacity building effort lasting two years that will assure the sustainability of the training after the completion of the Actions, and will contribute to bringing the standards and practice applied in Montenegrin national institutions closer to the Council of Europe and especially CPT standards.

The cascade training sessions were organized within the Action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro that is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe”, which started on 1 October 2016 and will finish in January 2019.
