Final workshop on good practices and case studies for police officers/staff in Romania

On 23-24 February 2017 the fifth and final workshop for 20 police officers/staff on international standards in pre-trial detention was organized in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

This workshop marked end of a series of five workshops (from September 2016 to February 2017) for police officers and staff working in police detention centres. The last workshop used the same interactive methodology as previous ones and was based on case-studies and exercises that illustrated applicability of international human rights standards in local circumstances and situations familiar to the participants.

At the end of the five workshops, some 100 police officers benefited from a comprehensive overview of human rights standards and exercised the applicable of these standards in their daily work. According to the participants’ evaluations made after each event, it is to be noted that the majority found the interactive activities to be a good test for the newly gained competencies, and majority expressed satisfaction with the acquired knowledge and skills.

The workshop was organized within the framework of the Pre-defined Project, “Strengthening the capacity of the pre-trial detention system to comply with the relevant international human rights instruments” financed under the Norway Grants Mechanism and implemented by the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, in partnership with the Council of Europe.

This project is implemented in partnership with the Council of Europe and with the financial support of the Norwegian financial mechanism 2009-2014. The content of the publication is however full responsibility the Council of Europe and under no circumstances may it be interpreted that it reflects the views of the Donor.
