Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina – Police trainers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are now set to deliver more effective and human rights-compliant training following a Train-the-Trainer programme held on 28-29 January 2025. The training helped 24 professionals from Police Academies improve their communication and presentation skills, ensuring they can more effectively train cadets on structured police interviews and public order management.

For the first time, the programme includes a long-term mentoring scheme, helping trainers apply their skills in the long run. Developed by 11 police trainers from different agencies, the training builds on previous EU/CoE efforts, including manuals on police interviewing and policing public gatherings.

This initiative is part of comprehensive efforts to modernise policing work in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of building a more professional police force, align training practices with international standards and reduce allegations of ill-treatment in custody.

This activity meeting was organised within the framework of the Action “ Further strengthening the treatment of detained and sentenced persons in line with European standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, as a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”, implemented by the Council of Europe.
