Information gathering mission on the Law on Prevention of Corruption: role, independence and competencies

A series of meetings with the relevant stakeholders for the prevention of corruption were held on 16 March 2022 in a fact-finding mission. The goal of this on-line mission was to collect information on implementation of Law on Prevention of Corruption, and more precisely on those legal provisions which regulate the institutional standing of the Agency, its administration, its powers, how it appoints and dismisses its bodies and senior managers, and the means it has available to finance and execute its budget.

The information gathered will inform the analysis of potential legal gaps which could jeopardize the independence of the Agency, limit its functioning, or open space for political pressure. Based on the analysis of the legislation and in considering best practices, a set of recommendations for the improvement of the legislation will be produced.

The meeting was organized within the framework of the EU/Council of Europe Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey Phase II – Action against Economic Crime in Montenegro (AEC-MNE).
