Adult learning methodology and ECHR training tools – a ToT for the staff of the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine

On 28-30 September 2016 a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) was organised for the professors of the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine (NAPU) by the Council of Europe Project “Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform”, funded by the Danish Government.

The ToT was focused on the adult learning methodology: learning principles and styles, training techniques and tools, training-cycle management, development of training programme and assignments, communication and presentation skills, evaluation of training.

During the ToT the participants were familiarized with the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) methodology and e-learning interactive platform. A separate session of the ToT was dedicated to the HUDOC database as well as other available case law tools of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The ToT was led by the Council of Europe international consultants Ms Ivana Roagna and Mr Ara Ghazaryan, jointly with Ms Ivanna Ibragimova (team leader of the Project “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine”, funded by the government of Canada). The workshop on the HUDOC database was facilitated by Ms Vanessa Aeby (lawyer from the ECtHR Registry). The HELP programme was presented by Mr Igor Karaman (Council of Europe info point for the HELP programme).

Cooperation with the NAPU aimed at enhancing effective application of modern training techniques and incorporation of the ECtHR case law in the curricula and training programmes for prosecutors will be further continued within the framework of the CoE Project “Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine”.
