Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform Project’s Fourth Steering Committee Meeting held in Kyiv

On 28 February 2019 the last Steering Committee Meeting of the Council of Europe Project "Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine", funded by the Danish Government, took place in Kyiv. The event gathered the Project’s beneficiaries and partners to discuss the achievements of the previous implementation period and define the scope of activities for the final period, i.e. till 30 June 2019. 

The main results of 2018 with regards to the project’s specific objectives were discussed during the meeting. An overall progress made concerning the reforms in criminal justice sector was highlighted, and the challenges were outlined. The Project Work plan till the end of the Project duration was endorsed by the Steering Committee following-up the discussion with the Project stakeholders on the main proprieties and plans for the remaining period.

The Council of Europe continuous support to the criminal justice sector reform was reaffirmed and the current Project’s exit strategy was discussed with the donor.

The Project is part of the continuous endeavour by the Council of Europe to support Ukraine to fulfil its obligations as a member state of the Organisation. After having successfully assisted Ukraine in adopting a new Code of Criminal Procedure and a new Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office in line with European standards, the Council of Europe continues support to the reform of the Prosecution Service and further development of the Free Legal Aid system.
