- Administrative body of the Märkischer Kreis (Arnsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia).
The German Wire Museum in Altena (est. 1965) is the only one dedicated to wire production in the world. The exhibition, including some operational machine, tells about the importance of wire production for the region, and its various techniques throughout history.
The Balve-Wocklum Luisenhütte Ironwoks is the fully preserved oldest blast furnace facility in Germany, dating back to the first half of the 17th century. Since 1950 it has been open to the public.
The Märkischer Kreis (successor of the Altena District) manages the German Wire Museum and the Luisenhütte Balve-Wocklum.
The German Wire Museum and the Luisenhütte Balve-Wocklum are Individual Sites of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
